Round 3 Raby Bay

Sunday 7th December 2014

  • QTS - 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run
  • ENTICER - 300m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run
  • KOOL KIDS - 100m swim, 2km cycle, 400m run

QTS

Swim course

  • The swim leg at Raby Bay is a U shape (out and back).
  • Competitors swim to the third swim buoy and perform a left hand turn.
  • Then swim across to the adjacent swim buoy and perform another left turn.
  • Competitors then swim to the far swim buoy (heading in the direction of the starting point) they then make a right turn at the far boy and head toward the swim exit ramp.

Bike course

  • The Raby Bay bike course is 5km loop, four (4) laps for QTS competitors (20km).
  • Competitors exit transition and head towards the start of Harborview Court.
  • They then make a right hand turn, going around the roundabout and onto Shore Street West.
  • Riders then head straight along Shore Street West until they get to Gordon Street, there is then a right turn onto Gordon Street.
  • Heading straight up Gordon Street, competitors make a left hand turn at the roundabout onto Bambridge Street. WARNING: when the road is wet this turn is very slippery, so take care in wet conditions.
  • Competitors then make a left turn staying on Bambridge Street. There is then a quick right hand turn that follows the previous left hand turn, which takes competitors onto Northern Arterial Road.
  • Staying on Northern Arterial Road, riders head straight up to the turning point, performing a u-turn around the point (2.5km).
  • QTS competitors then make their way back toward transition, instead performing a u-turn at the roundabout on the corner of Harborview Court to complete the cycle course for the second and third time.
  • Only on the last lap do competitors turn into Harborview Court to finish the bike leg.

Run course

  • Competitors exit the transition and head along the board walk past the Raby Bay Marina.
  • They then make a right hand turn at the statue and head down toward Shore Street West.
  • Runners then make a left hand turn onto Shore Street West.
  • Heading straight along Shore Street West, competitors make a left hand turn into Masthead Drive.
  • Runners then continue straight up Masthead drive until they get to the designated turning point (turn is at 1.25km at event 3).
  • After turning runners head back to the main event precinct on the opposite side they came along to start their second lap.
  • The turnaround point for QTS competitors to start their second lap is at the main pedestrian crossing which runners pass as they leave transition.
  • After completing the second lap, competitors come the same way as they did to make the turn after the previous lap, except they veer off to the right and down toward the finish line.

Enticer

  • The Raby Bay bike course is 2 x 5km loops.
  • Competitors exit transition and head towards the start of Harborview Court.
  • They then make a right hand turn, going around the roundabout and onto Shore Street West.
  • Riders then head straight along Shore Street West until they get to Gordon Street, there is then a right turn onto Gordon Street.
  • Heading straight up Gordon Street, competitors make a left hand turn at the roundabout onto Bambridge Street. WARNING: when the road is wet this turn is very slippery, so take care in wet conditions.

  • Enticer competitors then make their way back toward transition, and on their last lap turn left at the roundabout into Harborview Court, and back into transition.

  • Competitors exit the transition and head along the boardwalk past the Raby Bay Marina.
  • They then make a right hand turn at the statue and head down toward Shore Street West.
  • Runners then make a left hand turn on to Shore Street West.
  • Heading straight along Shore Street West, competitors make a left hand turn into Masthead Drive.
  • Runners then continue straight up Masthead drive until they get to the designated turning point (turning at 1.25km).
  • After turning runners head back to the main event precinct on the opposite side they came along. When turning right back onto the path in the main event precinct, Enticer competitors veer right towards and finish line to complete their race.

Kool Kids

Swim course

  • The Kool Kids swim course is a straight line swim. Starting at the swim buoy, competitors then swim directly across to the swim exit ramp and then into transition.

Bike Course

  • Kids exit the transition area down towards the roundabout, they then turn right onto Shore Street West and head straight.
  • Kool Kids competitors turn at the designated point 1km down Shore Street West, they then head back toward transition on the opposite side of the road they came along.
  • Riders then turn left back into Harborview Court and back into transition.

Run course

  • Kool Kids competitors exit the transition area and run along the boardwalk toward the statue.
  • They then turn right at the statue and head down toward Shore Street West.
  • Turning left onto Shore Street West, runners head down Shore Street West until they get to the turning point.
  • After performing a u-turn around the turning point they run back toward the statue.
  • After turning right back onto the path, being on the right hand side. Kool Kids competitors then veer right down the finish shoot and over the finish line.
